What is a refrigeration rack system and how does it work?

A refrigeration rack system is a system in which several compressors are operated in parallel and use a common suction and discharge line. By distributing the capacity across multiple compressors, it offers greater redundancy, because if one compressor fails, the others can continue to operate. In addition, part-load performance is significantly better than with a single compressor, allowing the cooling capacity to be flexibly adapted to different requirements, such as between summer and winter operation. This system is particularly suitable for installations with multiple cooling points and higher capacities. Another advantage is reduced installation effort, as separate piping is not required for each cooling point.

Which refrigerants are used?

In principle, a distinction is made between natural and synthetic refrigerants. Natural refrigerants are characterized by a low global warming potential (GWP) and are PFAS-free. These include, among others, CO₂, NH₃ (ammonia) and hydrocarbons such as propane and propene. Synthetic refrigerants, on the other hand, usually have a higher GWP and often contain PFAS. This group includes former CFCs, which are now banned, as well as HFCs such as R32 or R134a, HFOs such as R1234yf and R1234ze, and blends of HFCs and HFOs, for example R449A or R513A. In addition, when selecting the refrigerant, attention should be paid, where possible, to ensuring that the evaporation pressure is above ambient pressure.

From what capacity range does [CF] SYSTEMS build rack systems?

[CF] Systems builds rack systems from a capacity range of around 3 kW. For smaller capacity requirements, systems with a single compressor can also be implemented as an alternative.

Are the systems suitable for outdoor and indoor installation?

The systems are designed as standard for indoor installation. With a suitable housing, however, the units can also be used for outdoor installation. If desired, integration of a sound attenuator is also possible, as well as simple touch protection.

How long does it take from project planning to delivery?

The time from project planning to delivery cannot be defined in general terms, as it depends heavily on the respective system. Standard units of the NANO₂ series are usually available from stock. Other platforms typically have a lead time of around 10 to 14 weeks. For special units, the project planning and delivery time can increase to around 14 to 24 weeks, depending on the size of the unit and the components used.

Are there options for heat recovery?

Yes, there are very good options for heat recovery. In principle, the waste heat generated by any refrigeration system can be used, provided there is a corresponding heat demand. It is generally of little use to discharge this energy unused. CO₂ is particularly well suited for heat recovery, as comparatively high temperatures can be achieved during operation. If required, the system can be operated in such a way that more usable heat is specifically made available. In addition, the heating capacity can be further increased by using an additional heat pump evaporator, so that in many cases even the entire heating demand can be covered, for example in supermarkets or production facilities.

Does CF Systems also supply a suitable control cabinet for the system?

Yes, CF Systems can also supply suitable control cabinets for the system on request. In cooperation with selected partners, we create an individual wiring diagram for each system, which either covers only the system control or additionally the control of the connected cooling points. In addition, pure cooling-point control cabinets can also be implemented.

Can the system also be wired?

To simplify on-site installation, [CF] Systems also offers wiring.

Is the system parameterized and tested before delivery?

Every system with a control cabinet is parameterized and the sensors and actuators (except compressors, pumps or other large consumers) are tested.

How is the system controlled and monitored?

The system is controlled and monitored via a central controller. Depending on customer requirements, controllers from various manufacturers can be used, mainly systems from Wurm, Carel and Danfoss. The central controller coordinates all system functions and ensures efficient, optimal operation. In addition, remote monitoring is possible, which enables a quick initial diagnosis and support, especially in the event of service.

Can the system be brought in by crane?

Yes. If it is known in advance that the system is to be brought in this way, lifting points will be provided.

Can the system consist of several parts on request if installation requires it?

Yes. If installation requires it, the system can be built in several parts. For this, we need the exact dimensions and, if applicable, permissible maximum weights in advance. However, before dividing the system is planned, alternative solutions should also be checked, such as temporarily removing doors or enlarging openings. Dividing a system is often associated with considerable additional costs. We will find the most economically and technically sensible solution.
